At the wedding

In this lesson we’ll look at some vocabulary for talking about weddings (we met some in the conversation earlier) and also look at some nòsan traidiseanta or cleachdaidhean traidiseanta (traditional customs) typical at Highland weddings. Some modern wedding practices, stag and hen parties for example, don’t have a traditional Gaelic term. Phrases like cuirm nan damh and banais nan cearc are new terms based on the English names. There were traditional pre–marriage customs and events, nighe nan cas (washing the feet) for example, but these are very different to modern hen parties!
