Dè bhios ort?

What will you be wearing?

Why don’t you have a go at reading this out to yourself! Or if you have a Gaelic speaking/learning friend, you could each take turns. It will be fun—siuthad!

Dè chuireas daoine orra aig bainnsean? Atharraichidh an t–aodach seo anns gach dùthaich, ach ma thèid thu gu banais ann an Alba, bhiodh tu an dùil gum faic thu fèileadh no deise le peitean air na fireannaich agus dreasa–bhainnse air bean na bainnse.

Cha bhi mòran bhoireannach a’ cur brèid–bainnse (wedding veil) orra san latha an–diugh. ‘S e fàinne–phòsta (wedding ring) a chuireas fear agus bean na bainnse air an corrag aig an t–seirbheis. Agus an dèidh an latha mhòir, thèid a’ chàraid air mìos nam pòg (honeymoon), ach is dòcha nach e mìos a bhios aca ge–tà. Tachraidh am pòsadh ann an eaglais no ann an oifis–chlàraidh mar as trice.

How did you get on?

What do people wear at weddings? These clothes change in every country, but if you go to a wedding in Scotland, you would expect to see a kilt or a suit with a waistcoat on the men and a wedding dress on the bride.

Not many women wear a wedding veil these days. The bride and groom put a wedding ring on their finger at the service. And after the big day, the couple go on the honeymoon, but this might not be for a month. The marriage normally happens in a church or a registry office.
