When we use a preposition to link the first part of the sentence with a clause, we need to use the dependent (question, secondary) form of the verb. 

Sin am boireannach + Bidh leanabh ùr aice am–bliadhna.

That’s the woman + She will have a baby this year.

→ Sin am boireannach aig am bi leanabh ùr am–bliadhna.

That’s the woman who will have a new baby this year.

Is esan am fear + Bhruidhinn mi ris an–dè.

He is the man + I spoke to him yesterday.

→ Is esan am fear ris an do bhruidhinn mi an–dè.

He is the man to whom I spoke yesterday.

Remember that clauses which don’t take a preposition use a (who, which, that) or, for negative clauses, nach (who, which that not). 

Càit a bheil am balach a rinn sin?

Where is the boy who did that?

Seo am boireannach nach d’ fhuair an litir.

Here is/This is the woman who didn’t get/receive the letter.

Seo am bogsa. Bhiomaid a’ cumail seann aodach ann.

Here is the box. We would keep old clothes in it.

Seo am bogsa anns am biomaid a’ cumail seann aodach.

Here is the box in which we would keep old clothes.

Siud am peann. Sgrìobh mi an aithisg leis.

There’s the pen. I wrote the report with it.

Siud am peann leis an do sgrìobh mi an aithisg.

There’s the pen with which I wrote the report.

Seo an duine. Bha an galar air airson trì mìosan an-uiridh.

This is the person. He had the disease for three months last year.

Seo an duine air an robh an galar airson trì mìosan an-uiridh.

This is the person who had (on whom there was) the disease for three months last year.

Chunnaic mi an dotair. Cha robh a’ bhìoras oirre.

I saw the doctor. She didn’t have the virus. [lit. the virus wasn’t on her.]

Chunnaic mi an dotair air nach robh a’ bhìoras.

I saw the doctor who didn’t have the virus [lit. on whom the virus was not].

An tusa an tè? A bheil an dèideadh ort?

Are you the woman? Do you have (the) toothache [lit. Is the toothache on you]?

An tusa an tè air a bheil an dèideadh?

Are you the woman who has the toothache [lit on whom the toothache is]?
