MÀIRI

Tha e cho math d’ fhaicinn Ailis. ‘S fhada bhon uair sin. Ochd no naoi bliadhna?

(It’s so good to see you Ailis. It’s been a long time!  Eight or nine years?)

AILIS

Tha e math thu fhèin fhaicinn cuideachd. A bheil an giotàr agad fhathast?

(It’s good to see you too. Have you still got the guitar?)

MÀIRI

Tha ach tha mi glè thrang le m’ obair. Agus tha mi trang le balach beag!

(Yes but I’m really busy with work. And I’m busy with a wee boy!)

AILIS

Càit a bheil Màrtainn? Bhiodh e math coinneachadh ris.

(Where is Martin?  It would be good to meet him.)

MÀIRI

Tha Màrtainn aig club ball-coise na sgoile a-nochd. Seadh ma tha, cuin a thòisich thu san sgoil ùr?

(Martin is at the school football club tonight. So, when did you start at the new school?)

AILIS

Thòisich mi anns an obair ùr agam Diluain.

(I started in my new job on Monday.)

MÀIRI

Ciamar a tha cùisean?

(How are things?)

AILIS

Tha a h-uile càil math. Tha mi a’ teagasg ceòl. Tha na tidsearan gasta. Agus tha an sgoil brèagha.

(Everything is good. I teach music. The teachers are great. And the school is lovely.)

MÀIRI

Càit a bheil an sgoil sin?

(Where is the school?)

AILIS

Tha i air an taobh a deas.

(It’s on the south side.)

MÀIRI

Chan eil mi eòlach air an taobh a deas.

(I’m not familiar with the south side.)

AILIS

Chan eil mise eòlach air nas mò!

(I’m not familiar with it either!)

MÀIRI

Bhiodh e math a dhol air chuairt còmhla.

(It would be good to go for a walk together.)

AILIS

O bhiodh sin math.

(That would be good.)

MÀIRI

Am biodh madainn Disathairne freagarrach dhut?

(Would Saturday morning be suitable for you?)

AILIS

Bhiodh.  Cha bhi mi aig obair agus cha do rinn mi plana sam bith.

(Yes.  I won’t be working and I haven’t made any plans.)

Cuin a choinnicheas sinn?

(When will we meet?)

MÀIRI

Coinnichidh sinn aig deich uairean ma tha.

(We’ll meet at ten o clock then.)

AILIS

Càit an coinnich sinn?

(Where will we meet?)

MÀIRI

Coinnichidh sinn an seo? Thèid sinn dhan phàirce, dhan taigh-tasgaidh agus gu biadh.

(We’ll meet here?  We’ll go to the park, to the museum and for food.)

AILIS

Bhiodh sin math fhèin.  Ciamar a thèid sinn dhan bhaile?

(That would be great.  How will we get to town?)

MÀIRI

Thèid sinn dhan bhaile air a’ bhus. Coisichidh sinn dhan phàirce agus dhan taigh-tasgaidh.

(We’ll got to town on the bus.  We’ll walk to the park and to the museum.)

AILIS

Càit an ith sinn?

(Where will we eat?)

MÀIRI

Am biodh taigh-bìdh Eadailteach ceart gu leòr?

(Would an Italian restaurant be okay?)

AILIS

Bhiodh taigh-bìdh Eadailteach sgoinneil. Tapadh leat a Mhàiri.  Nise… saoil am biodh Màrtainn ag iarraidh leasan-ciùil?

(An Italian restaurant would be fantastic!  Thanks Mairi.  Now… do you think Màrtainn would like a music lesson?)

MÀIRI

Bhiodh…. agus mise!

(He would… and me!)
