Bilingual transcription: Faireachdainnean

Bilingual transcription: Feelings

Tha am flat ùr cho snog.

Tha mi air mo dhòigh gun d’ fhuair sinn air gluasad a-steach.

Ciamar a tha thu fhèin a’ faireachdainn?

(The new flat is lovely. I’m so excited about moving in.  How are you feeling?)

Tha mi a’ faireachdainn glè thoilichte.

Tha seòmar agam dhomh fhìn.

Agus tha mo charaid toilichte an t-sòfa aice fhaighinn air ais!

Dè mu do dheidhinn-sa?

(I’m feeling very happy.  I’ll have a room to myself.  And my friend is kind will be happy to get her sofa back!  What about you?)

Tha mi taingeil àite-fuirich ùr fhaighinn cho luath.

Bha eagal orm gum bithinn a’ cadal air being.

(I’m grateful to find a new place so quickly.  I was afraid I’d be sleeping on a bench.)

Tha Etta èibhinn, nach eil? Thug i gàire orm an-dè. Tha i air a dòigh gun d’ fhuair sinn flat air mhàl cho faisg oirre fhèin!

(Etta’s funny, isn’t she?  She made me laugh yesterday.  She’s so pleased that we found a flat to rent so close to her own!)

‘S e nàbaidh coibhneil a bhios innte.

Tha i a’ togail mo chridhe a h-uile turas a chì mi i.

(She’ll be a kind neighbour.  She lifts my spirits every time I see her.)

Bidh i a’ toirt mo mhàthair gu mo chuimhne.

Chaochail i an-uiridh.

(She reminds me of my mother. She passed away last year.)

A bheil thu ga h-ionndrainn gu mòr?

(Do you miss her lots?)

Tha. Bidh mi a’ cuimhneachadh air na làithean mu dheireadh againn còmhla anns an Danmhairg.

Bidh cianalas mòr orm an uair sin.

Am bi thusa a’ faicinn do theaghlach?

(Yes.  I think about our final days together in Denmark.  It makes me feel sad.  Do you miss your family?)

Chan eil iad a’ fuireach fada air falbh, ach chan fhaca mi iad bho chionn ghreis.

(They don’t live that far away, but I haven’t seen them for a while.)

Nach eil sin gad fhàgail brònach?

(Does that not leave you sad?)

Tha. Ach, nuair a bhruidhinn mi riutha mu dheireadh…bha mi fiadhaich.

Yes, but when I last spoke to them I was angry.

Bha thu fiadhaich, ri do theaghlach? Carson?

(You were angry, with your family? Why?)

Bha iad cinnteach gum bithinn fhìn agus mo bhràmair a’ pòsadh.

Thug sinn gealladh-pòsaidh seachad.

Nuair a sgar sinn, cha robh mo phàrantan a’ tuigsinn carson, agus bha mo bhràthair a’ cur às a chorp agus a’ cumail a-mach gur mise a bu choireach.

(They were certain myself and my partner were going to get married.  We were engaged.  When we split up, my parents couldn’t understand why, and my brother said I was to blame.)

Nach robh sibh ann an gaol?

(Were you not in love?)

Bha, an toiseach.

Ach, mu dheireadh bha sinn dìreach a’ cur an ìre.

Cha robh sinn toilichte còmhla.

Dh’fhàg mise. Cha do ghoirtich mi i, ach bha ise troimh-a-chèile.

(We were, at first.  But towards the end, we were just pretending.  We weren’t happy.  I left. I didn’t hurt her, but she was sad.)

Agus, a-nise?

(And now?)

A-nis, tha mi air mo nàrachadh gun robh mi cho crosta riutha. Tha aithreachas orm.

(Now, I’m embarrassed that I was so mean and rude to my parents.  I regret it.)

Chan e faireachdainn math a th’ ann an aithreachas.

Tha mise cho toilichte gun do bhruidhinn mi fhìn is mo mhàthair mun a h-uile rud mus do chaochail i.

(Regret is never a great feeling.  I’m so happy that my mother and I talked about everything before she died.)

Bheir sin fois-inntinn dhut.

(That will give you peace of mind.)

Nach bruidhinn thu ri do phàrantan?

Bidh iad gad ionndrainn agus draghail mu do dheidhinn.

(Why don’t you talk to your parents? They’ll be missing you and will be concerned about you.)

Tha mi iomagaineach nach bi iad airson cluinntinn bhuam.

(I’m worried they won’t want to hear from me?)

Chan eil màthair, athair no bràthair agamsa.

(I don’t have a mother, father or brother.)

Sophie, tha mi air mo dhearg nàrachadh.

Cuiridh mi fòn gu mo mhàthair a-nochd.

(Oh Sophie, I’m so embarrassed.  I’ll phone my mother tonight.)

Dèan sin. Agus nì mise cupa eile cofaidh, mus bi an dithis againn a’ caoineadh.

(Do that.  Let’s go, before the two of us are in floods of tears.)
