Gaelic prepositions: ri and its prepositional pronouns

Did you notice that a’ bruidhinn (speaking), ag ràdh (saying) and  thuirt  (said) are often followed by the preposition  ri. Though ri has other meanings, it’s the preposition Gaelic uses for English ‘to’ with verbs of communication: talking to, speaking to, and also listening to, ag èisteachd ri .

We often use the preposition  ri  with a pronoun (e.g. I, you, it), to give us phrases such as “to me” and “to you”. We just need to learn these words to give us these new sentences. We already know the structure.
