MÌCHEAL
Sin sibh a Sheonaidh! A bheil latha math air a bhith agaibh?
(There you are Seonaidh! Have you had a good day?)
SEONAIDH
Halò a Mhìcheil. Tha latha math agamsa a h-uile latha. An robh thu fhèin trang an-diugh?
(Hello Michael. I have a good day every day! Were you busy today?)
MÌCHEAL
Bha mi trang an-diugh. Bha sinn gu math trang anns an ionad spòrs. Bha mi a’ cluich iomain le clann-sgoile agus bha mi a’ teagasg snàmh.
(I was busy today. We were very busy at the sports centre. I was playing shinty with school pupils and I was teaching swimming.)
SEONAIDH
Am bi latha dheth agad?
(Do you have a day off?)
MÌCHEAL
Bidh latha dheth agam Disathairne no Didòmhnaich. Uaireannan, bidh latha dheth agam ann am meadhan na seachdain. Bha latha dheth agam an-dè.
(I have a day off on Saturday or Sunday. Sometimes I’ll have a day off in the middle of the week. I had a day off yesterday.)
SEONAIDH
Dè bha thu a’ dèanamh air do latha dheth?
(What were you doing on your day off?)
MÌCHEAL
Bha mi gu math sgìth. Bha mi nam chadal fad na maidne.
(I was very tired. I was asleep all morning.)
SEONAIDH
An robh!
(Were you?!)
MICHEAL
Bha mi aig coinneamh club iomain feasgar. Bha mi nam shuidhe fad an fheasgair.
(I was at a shinty club meeting in the afternoon. I was sitting all afternoon.)
SEONAIDH
Fad an fheasgair?
(All afternoon?)MÌCHEAL
MÌCHEAL
A-nochd bidh mise nam shìneadh air an t-sòfa agus bidh mi a’ coimhead telebhisean.
(Tonight I’ll be lying on the sofa and I’ll be watching television.)
SEONAIDH
Tha thu glè cheart!
(You’re quite right!)
Bha mi nam shuidhe aig coinneamh gu sia uairean. An uair sin, chaidh sinn dhan bhàr airson pinnt no dhà.
(I was sitting at a meeting till six o’clock. Then we went to the bar for a pint or two.)
SEONAIDH
An robh thu nad shuidhe anns a’ bhàr cuideachd?
(Were you sitting in the bar?)
MÌCHEAL
Cha robh. Bha mi nam sheasamh aig a’ bhàr le mo charaidean.
(I wasn’t. I was standing at the bar with my friend.)
SEONAIDH
Bha spòrs gu leòr agaibh. Dè eile a nì thu air latha dheth?
(You had lots of fun then. What else do you do on a day off?)
MÌCHEAL
Uill, cha toil leam a bhith nam shuidhe. ’S toil leam a bhith a’ ruith anns a’ phàirc.
(Well, I don’t like sitting. I like to run in the park.)
MÌCHEAL
Tha sibhse air a bhith trang?
(You’ve been busy?)
SEONAIDH
Tha mi air a bhith anns a’ bhùth. Chan eil feum agamsa air latha dheth. Tha latha dheth agamsa a h-uile latha.
(I’ve been to the shop. I don’t need a day off. I have a day off every day.)
MÌCHEAL
Chan eil!
(No!)
SEONAIDH
Tha mi nam shuidhe air a’ bheing seo a h-uile latha. Às dèidh sin, tha mi nam sheasamh aig a’ chucair a’ còcaireachd, no nam shuidhe air an t-sòfa a’ leughadh, no ag èisteachd ri Radio nan Gàidheal.
(I sit on this bench every day. After that, I stand at the cooker cooking, or I’m sitting on the sofa reading, or listening to Radio nan Gàidheal.)
MÌCHEAL
Tha sin trang gu leòr!
(That’s busy enough.)
SEONAIDH
Bidh mise nam chadal tràth, agus bidh mi nam dhùisg tràth.
(I go to sleep early, and I wake up early.)
