Rugadh is thogadh

Born and raised

We can ask people where they are from with Cò às a tha thu? but often people were born and raised elsewhere, and a distinction must be made.

So we can ask:

Cò às a tha thu?

Where are you from?

And they might answer:

’S ann à Èirinn a tha mi. Tha mi a’ fuireach ann am Baile Àtha Cliath. Ach rugadh is thogadh mi ann an Lunnainn.

I am from Ireland. I live in Dublin. But I was born and raised in London.

You can ask:

Càit an do rugadh tu?

Where were you born?

Càit an do thogadh tu?

Where were you raised?

You can talk about a specific place:

An do rugadh tu anns an Ruis?

Were you born in Russia?

Nach do rugadh tu anns an Ruis?

Were you not born in Russia?
