Tha barrachd fhlataichean is thaighean gan togail
We also saw examples of sentences with gam , gad , ga , and with mo, do, a, a (h-) before a verbal noun throughout A2 and B1 .
Learners and speakers of Gaelic often go wrong between these two situations.
There are three situations where we use gam, gad, ga etc :
1. Where a pronoun is the object of the verbal noun:
A bheil | thu | gam | chreidsinn? | gam chreidsinn , not a' creidsinn mi |
Are | you | at my | believing? | Do you believe me? |
Chan eil | e | ga | dhèanamh. | ga dhèanamh, not a' dèanamh e |
Isn't | he | at its | doing. | He isn't doing it. |
2. Where there is a continuous passive meaning:
Tha | toglaichean ùra | gan | togail.
Are | new buildings | at their | building. | New buildings are being built. |
Tha | iad | gan | togail | |
Are | they | at their | building | They are being built. |
3. Where there is movement:
Tha | mi | a' dol | a | thogail | thaighean.
Am | I | going | to | building | of houses. | I am going to build houses. |
Tha | mi | a' dol | gan | togail.
Am | I | going | at their | building. | I am going to build them. |
Chaidh | mi | ga | fhaighinn.
Went | I | at its | getting. | I went to get it. |
