An dàrna turas: Thathas air bile ùr a chur air adhart ann am Pàrlamaid na h–Alba

Take two: A new bill has been put forward in the Scottish Parliament

Let’s have a look at this conversation again.

Ciamar a chòrd an turas agaibh mun cuairt na Pàrlamaid ribh? How did you like your trip around the Parliament?
Mas urrainn dhomh briathrachas pàrlamaide a chleachdadh, tha sinn uile aon–ghuthach! Fhuaradh latha sònraichte aig a h–uile duine! If I may use parliamentary language, we are unanimous (all of one voice)! Everyone had a special day (lit. a special day was had by everyone)!
Chòrd a h–uile nì rinn—a’ coimhead air deasbadan, gnothach na pàrlamaide san t–Seòmar agus a’ coinneachadh ris a’ BPA agad. We enjoyed everything—watching the debates, the parliamentary business in the Chamber and meeting your MSP.
Chunnacas baidean dhaoine a’ togail fianais taobh a–muigh na Pàrlamaid a rèir aithris naidheachdan a chuala mi an-ceartuair, ach chan fhaca mise iad. A small group of people was seen protesting outside Parliament according to a news report I heard a moment ago, but I didn’t see them.
Chìte tòrr a bharrachd dhaoine a’ togail fianais nan cuirte na cìsean an-àirde, cuiridh mi geall! Many more people would be seen protesting if the taxes were increased, I bet!
Tha e fhathast a’ cur iongnadh orm gum faighear tòrr fiosrachaidh oifigeil sa Ghàidhlig—ann an teis–meadhan Dhùn Èideann. It still amazes me that a lot of official information can be found in Gaelic—in the centre of Edinburgh.
Gheibhte barrachd nam biodh achd Gàidhlig aig Westminster, saoilidh mi! There would be more if Westminster had a Gaelic act, I think!
Ach thathas air bile ùr a chur air adhart ann am Pàrlamaid na h–Alba. But a new bill has been put forward in the Scottish Parliament.
Dè a’ bhile a tha seo, ma–thà? What bill is this, then?
‘S e Bile nan Cànanan Albannach an t–ainm a th’ oirre. Bithear an dòchas gun toir a’ bhile seo inbhe oifigeil don Ghàidhlig agus don Albais ann an Alba. It is called the Scottish Languages Bill. It is hoped that this bill will give official status to Gaelic and Scots in Scotland.
Nach d’ fhuaradh taic gu leòr le Achd na Gàidhlig (Alba)? Wasn’t enough support secured with the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act?
Chaidh sin a chur air bhonn ann an 2005. Agus feumar togail air a sin. Tha an saoghal air atharrachadh gu mòr on uair sin. That was implemented in 2005. And it is necessary to build on that. The world has changed a lot since then.
Mar sin, thathas an dòchas gun tig piseach air cùisean le, mar eisimpleir, sgìrean sònraichte Gàidhlig a chur air bhonn. Therefore, it is hoped that things will improve by, for example, establishing special Gaelic areas (areas of linguistic significance).
‘S e beachd sònraichte a tha sin. Ach, tha ceist agamsa a dh’fhaodamaid deasbad. Cò às a thig an t–airgead? t is an excellent idea. However, I have a question that we could debate. Where will the money come from?
