Bilingual transcription: People would go to the island

Bilingual transcription: Bhiodh daoine a’ dol dhan Eilean

JOY

We looked  back , using the conditional tense to express the habitual past, bhiodh, people would go to the island:

Bhiodh daoine/a' dol dhan Eilean Bhiodh daoine

a' dol dhan Eilean.

To ask a question, you'd use:  Am biodh …?  For instance, Did everyone speak Gaelic?

Am biodh a h–uile duine/a' bruidhinn Gàidhlig?  Am biodh a h–uile duine a' bruidhinn Gàidhlig?

And the negative form of bhiodh, cha bhiodh:

They wouldn't live there all year:

Cha bhiodh iad/a' fuireach/fad na bliadhna cha bhiodh iad a' fuireach fad na bliadhna.

For emphasis we used  B' e …,  it was … It was English that the gentry spoke:

B' e Beurla/a bhiodh aig na h–uaislean, b' e Beurla a bhiodh aig na h–uaislean. And its negative form,  Cha b' e … That wasn't important,  Cha b' e sin/a bha cudromach, cha b' e sin a bha cudromach.
