Mu dheireadh thall.
(Finally.)
Gonadh!
(Damn!)
A, haoidh – gabh mo leisgeul?
(Hey – excuse me?)
Duilich. Cha robh mi a’ togail dealbh dhìot.
(I’m sorry. I wasn’t filming you.)
Tha mi an dòchas nach robh.
Dè bha thu a’ dèanamh? A’ togail dealbh de dhuilleag?
(I hope you weren’t. What were you doing? Taking a photo of a leaf?)
Bha mi an dòchas dealbh a thogailden chraoibh, ach an àite sin… thog mi dealbh den cheann agadsa!
(I was hoping to take a photo of the tree, but instead of that… I took a photo of your head!)
Duilich. Bha mi ag èisteachd ri òran airson còisir na sgoile. Moladh Beinn Dòbhrain – a bheil thu eòlach air?
(Sorry. I was listening to a song for the school choir. Praising Beinn Dòbhrain – do you know it?)
Tha mi eòlach air a’ bhàrdachd.
Tha mise ag obair air pròiseact mun àrainneachd ‘s mun aimsir airson Ionad na Gàidhlig – ‘Blàthachadh na cruinne agus atharrachadh na gnàth-shìde’.
(I know the poem. I’m working on a project about the environment and the weather for the Gaidhlig Centre. – “Global warming and climate change”)
Cuspairean mòra.
(Big topics.)
Agus cudromach.
Tha an t-sìde ag atharrachadh air feadh an t-saoghail.
Nach eil thu fhèin a’ smaoineachadh sin?
(And important. The weather is changing all over the world. Don’t you think so?)
Bhiodh mo sheanair ag ràdh, ‘Tha an aimsir air a dhol bun-os-cionn. Tha an geamhradh nas blàithe agus tha an samhradh nas fliche.’
Agus cha robh sin ach às an Òban!
Am faod mi sùil a thoirt air an dealbh?
(My grandad would say, “the weather has turned upside down. The winter is warmer and the summer is wetter.” And that was only in Oban! Can I look at the photo?)
Tha mo charaid ann an Calafòrnia ag ràdh gu bheil an aimsir acasan a’ fàs nas tiorma agus tha na teintean mòra a’ fàs nas cumanta.
(My friend in California said that the weather there is getting drier and large fires are becoming more common.)
Bidh na naidheachdan tric ag aithris mu na teintean ann an Astràilia agus na tuiltean san Roinn Eòrpa.
(There are always news reports about fires in Australia and floods in Europe.)
Saoil am fàs cùisean nas miosa neo am fàs iad nas fheàrr?
(I wonder if things will get better or worse?)
Tha atharrachadh anns an aimsir a h-uile bliadhna.
B’ àbhaist dhan gheamhradh a bhith cho fuar ris a’ phuinnsean.
Cha chanadh tu sin an-uiridh. Bha i cho fliuch ri tòn tunnaige!
(There’s a change in the weather every year. The winter used to be incredibly cold. You wouldn’t say that last year. It was as wet as a duck’s bum.)
Tha cuimhn’ a’m gum biodh an samhradh tòrr na bu bhlàithe nuair a bha mise òg.
Bhiomaid a’ dol a Leòdhas agus ag obair anns a’ mhòine còmhla ri mo sheanair ‘s mo sheanmhair. Bhiodh a’ ghrian cho teth ris an teine, agus gar losgadh!
(I remember the summer being much warmer when I was younger. We used to go to Lewis, and we’d work in the peats with my gran and grandad.
The sun would burn us.)
Bhiodh i a’ sgoltadh nan creagan!
(The sun would split the rocks!)
Chan eil cùisean cho dona an seo ge-tà.
Ged a bhios frasan troma agus gèileachan againn, cha bhi crithean-talmhainn ro làidir againn no bholcànothan a sprèadhadh!
(Things aren’t as bad here. Although we have heavy showers and gales, we don’t have strong earthquakes or erupting volcanoes!)
Dè bhios tu a’ dèanamh leis a’ phròiseact?
(What will you do with the project?)
Bidh mi ga thaisbeanadh agus ag innse do dhaoine dè dh’fhaodadh tachairt.
Nach tig thu a chèilidh oirnn anns an ionad?
O, agus is mise Luc.
(I’ll run presentations and tell people about what could happen. Come and visit us in the centre. Oh and I’m Luc.)
‘S dòcha gun dèan mi sin. Is mise Rona.
Duilich mun dealbh agad.
(I’m Rona. Sorry about your photo.)
